Henry Abram & Sons Ltd. (HASL) were contracted to supply a transportation manual for the shipment of 2 skids, and associated piles from Aberdeen, Scotland to Hartlepool, England. The items ranged in weight from 60 Te to 6 Te. HASL attended the loading and discharge to ensure that the transportation manual was adhered to.
HASL chartered a suitable vessel and produced stowage and securing plans. The stowage on this vessel made use of all the available space, so great care was required on the day of loading to ensure that all items were stowed correctly.
HASL were also responsible for arranging the load-out and worked closely with the crane contractor to ensure that everything went to plan on the day.
Sea-going forces were calculated from first principles and used to design the sea-fastenings. The cargo was secured by means of chains and span-sets.
Under the guidance of HASL’s marine superintendent the cargo was secured to both the Chief’s and the warranty surveyor’s satisfaction.
