As part of the contract HASL had to carry out ballasting calculations for all stages of the transportation and were responsible for the ballasting operations on-site. HASL were also responsible for all aspects of the towage, including routing, weather forecasting and identifying contingency procedures.

HASL was on-site at each port to look after the interests of the tug and barge as well as provide any assistance to the teams involved in the loading, securing and discharging of the cargo. equipment from Peterhead to Newcastle via Rosyth, where the product would be spooled.
